Why did the bear cross the road?

Honestly, I have no idea. All I know is that yesterday my dad and I went hiking and on our way back a bear ran across the highway. Driving on 285 near Fairplay, at about 8:00 in the evening a large black bear decided he needed to cross the road, by the time we turned around and drove back he was already across the road, but I did get one quick picture of him.
